1980 - Seniors

Leo Boller - French Horn - 4 Years
Leo has been in Symphonic band and is Band President. He has also served as Librarian and section leader. Leo was selected as Outstanding Sophomore and Junior and received the Bank of America Award for Music. He plans to study mechanical engineering.

 

Diane Campbell - Trumpet - 4 Years
Diane has been in the Symphonic band and soloed with the Jazz Band. She was selected Most Promising freshman in Instrumental Music and awarded Outstanding Musician at MSAC Jazz Festival. Diane has also been very active in ASB. Her future plans are to become a reporter then broadcaster for radio or a TV newscaster.

 

Scott Cokely - Alto Sax / Piano - 4 Years
Scott has performed with Symphonic band and as a solo pianist with the Jazz Band. Scott was chosen as Best Instrumentalist (junior high), Best Piano Student and 1st place at Hume Lake Summer Camp Instrumental Div. Scott's future ambitions are to become a concert pianist, jazz pianist and composer.

 

Tami Conner - Clarinet - 4 Years
Tami has performed with the Concert and Symphonic bands. She has also attended Cal State Fullerton Music Camp. Tami plans to attend Cal State Fresno to work on her teaching credentials in order to teach deaf children.

 

Sarah Drooks - Percussion - 4 Years
Sarah is section leader and is in the Jazz, Symphonic and Special Ensembles. She is the set drummer for the Jazz band and was invited to the All-Southern California Honor Band. Sarah has also been set drummer for the Trojanaires. This summer she will be playing with the Young Americans in the Michigan area. Next year she plans to attend college to study nursing.

 

Debbie Jockish - Flute - 4 Years
Debbie has been in the Concert Band and served as section leader. After graduation she plans to attend Humbolt State college and major in Wild Life Preservation.

 

Steve Leyland - Trumpet - 4 Years
Steve has served as Drum Major during 1979/1980. He has been in the Symphonic and Jazz bands. He was awarded the Outstanding Freshman Award and has been on the Band Staff handling equipment. He is also resident mechanic for the band.

 

Janet Ralls - Tall Flags - 2 Years
Janet has been a great help in developing the Corps. She has received medals for individual competition and the Bent Saber Award. Janet has also been a member of the mixed chorus, treble choir and concert choir. She plans to attend MSAC in the fall to study business.

 

Laurie Robinett - Flute - 4 Years
Laurie has been in both the Concert and Symphonic bands. She has played in solo/ensemble Festivals and received excellent and superior ratings. Laurie will be attending Azusa Pacific College majoring in nursing.

 

Shelley Toole - Drill Team - 4 Years
Shelley as an assistant leader has helped bring National prestige to the Drill Team. She excels in Dance and has won many honors as a devoted member of the Drill team. Shelley plans to attend the University of La Verne toward the goal of being an Elementary School Teacher.

Top 50 Symptoms You've Been in Band Too Long

1. When you hear music and you start marking time.

2. When you walk behind someone and fall into step with them.

3. When you try to guess the tempo of your favorite song.

4. When all your friends are in band.

5. When changing clothes on the bus is a normal occurrence.

6. When you point out key changes and dynamics while listening to the radio.

7. When every guy/girl you're interested in is in the band.

8. When you actually like wearing your uniform.

9. When people ask you about your social life and you say, "Oh, you mean my flute/trumpet/drum/etc.?"

10. When you consider your drill book a fashion accessory.

11. When you've had a "trombone-ectomy".

12. When you practice your instrument more than you talk to your dog or cat.

13. When being mauled by a drum is a normal part of life.

14. When people worry when they see you without your instrument.

15. When "armed guard," means a girl with a pole, instead of a guy with a gun.

43. When you subconsciously start practicing in math class with a pencil, marching it

45. When you're more opinionated about the Chattahoochee Cougars/Centennial Knights Rivalry than the CiCi's Pizza freshness!.

46. When you roll step through the cafeteria so you won't spill your lunch.
