Fair Warning - Christian Rock

During 1991 and 1992 I became involved with Eric and Danny, two guitar players from the apartment complex that I was living in. I had heard Danny playing his guitar one day and introduced myself. He told me that he and his friend Eric were putting together a Christian rock band, but needed a drummer. I offered to join and soon we started early morning rehersals.

We tried some different rehersal studios before settling down on a studio in Brea. My new family was just beginning to form, Eric and Danny were open to practicing very early on Sunday mornings. We arrived at the studio around 6:45 in the morning. The studio manager was usually half asleep, groggy from too much parting the night before. He would open up the room (there was one very large main room) and we would be set up in about 20 minutes.

We all liked hard rock and roll, and the songs reflected it. We needed a singer but never found anyone willing to practice so early on a Sunday morning, so Eric ended up taking over vocals. Since Eric wrote all the lyrics, this made sense and I think it worked out pretty well. He voice wasn't the best, but this is rock and roll and Danny and I were happy we didn't have to sing.

I think our biggest goal was to have fun and maybe play for some friends. Our first party was December 31st, 1991 - New Years Eve. This was in Danny's brother's back yard. We planned and prepared for our big night. However, the evening took a second place to an even bigger event - the birth of my first daugther Kelly Rose Cole.

My wife went into labor during the afternoon, and Kelly was born just before 7:00 pm. Eileen allowed me to leave the hospital later that night. I picked up my drums and headed over to the party. I saw a video of the party days later and I looked abit tired (but smiling). After the party was over I headed back to the hospital and fell asleep next to my wife and our new addition.

Our best show was at the Church of the Beaitudes in La Mirada. We got to play both Saturday and Sunday. We rented our own P.A. system and we were our own roadies. Still, we had a great time. The carnival chairperson thanked us for giving the crowd an interesting show. She gave each of us coupons for free food from the food court area. We also got free tickets for the carnival rides. The MP3 at the bottom of this webpage are from that carnival show.

We also played at the Whittier Christian High School carnival. This was different. It was during the winter and it rained on us. The really wasn't any crowd. This was a bummer for us, but it was worse for the carnival itself (no crowd, no money).

The last carnival we played at was St. Bruno's in Whittier. This was in May of 1993. We didn't have a stage and the sound equipment wasn't working in our favor either. Our pathways were starting to change and go different ways and we all decided to take some time off. We did get back together for a graduation party years later, but I haven't been in contract with either Eric or Danny since. I have some video tape as a reminder of the fun times. We had a rough sound but we had fun. Maybe we even did some good for Christ while we were at it. I hope you enjoy the songs ! Lyrics are listed below.
