Equipment / Stage Setup

Scott Ruiz...
Gear consists of a guitar and harp conveniently lifted from
dwarf Medici who is undoubtedly missing a harp, a guitar
and a travelling companion.
Sorry, Medi.

Other equipment includes:
wireless microphone with Ray-o-Vac batteries from 1978;
Christmas scarf for leading singer around boat;
crab bib;
more hair than rest of band members combined;
acoustic guitar with extended strings for defense against fans jumping on stage;
Bono sunglasses;
and a K-Fed top hat that the original owner still doesn't realize is gone.

Martin Lozano...

1) 1985 Gibson Les Paul Studio, maple-burst with cream-colored binding. I modified it with Shaller tuning pegs in 1986 and replaced the original PAF humbuckers with Seymour-Duncan's JB (bridge) and Jazz (neck) pickups in 2008. The original PAFs were muddy compared to the new pups. It weighs a ton and I love it.

2) ca. 1996 Paul Reed Smith Artist II, tiger-striped deep maroon red with abalone bird inlays and decorative trim all around. It's stunningly beautiful and a dream to play. Thanks Jimi!

3) 1990 Carvin DC127 Custom Shop, swamp ash body with maple neck and natural finish. I modified it with Seymour-Duncan JB (bridge) and Jazz (neck) humbucker pickups in 2008. Love the tone, but the long scale neck can be tiring.

4) 2006 Mesa Engineering Lone Star Classic 2x12 combo. What awesome power and tone! I modified it in 2009 to include the infamous Reeder Mod. This sucker weighs 98 lbs!

5) 2005 Martin Acoustic DX-1.

6) Pedals on my board: Boss TU-15 tuner, Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Wah, Visual Sound Route 66, Visual Sound Jekyl, Metal Muff, Boss Giga Delay, Boss Chorus.

Brian Vaniman...

finger-picks and spanks a humble 4-string Squire P-Bass, which he picked up for the incredible sum of $150 in 1988 from Brother Gable. The first and only bass he's ever owned, since he spends all his moola on PA equipment. However, it is laced-out with a set of Dean Markley Blue Steel strings, quick-release strap-locks from Dunlop, and several killer stickers. At the other end of the cord is a sweet little 200 watt Nemesis combo amp from Eden. This baby packs a good punch with 4 x 10" woofers, a horn tweeter and a ported enclosure. Integrated DI output pumps the low frequencies into the sound system. Signal processing duties are handled by a Zoom 506 Bass multi-effects pedal. When he wants to be unleashed, Brian inserts a Samson CR77 UHF wireless system, which enables him to play along while checking out the sound system balance. Occasionally, he gets the itch to hack on a higher-octave six-string, at which time he whips out the black'n'white Mexican Strat, laced-out with GHS Boomers 009 strings and Dunlop strap-locks.

Steve Cole...

"Where are the Pearls!" Steve has used Pearl drums since he was just a lad back in 6th grade. He still has pieces from his first drum kit packed away in the garage. He now uses a 2005 set of Pearl Export drums (6 ply Poplar shells with the I.S.S. tom mounting system). Red Wine with black hardware. These are kept clean with a set of Road Runner drum bags. He uses Zildjian cymbals and a DW bass pedals. Sometimes, when the mood strikes him, he plays a set of Roland Electronic drums, the Roland TD-7 Turbo (32 separate Drum Sets, 9 trigger inputs and an adjustable effects processor). This made playing at the old apartment possible. On some occasions you may see the electric set wrapped around the acoustic Pearls for his "monster" kit. He uses Vic Firth drums sticks (5AN & 5BN hickory), pitch-paired,tear drop tip for rich cymbal sounds and Evans Drumheads (coated snare, double-ply tom & bass heads and E-Rings for external overtone control).
